SMS has always been popular with Pakistani users and the recent data from PTA provides evidence to this. During the year 2007-08, cellular mobile operators generated more than 25 billion SMS.

Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) latest report of December 2009 said that a total of 106 billion text messages were sent across the 5 cellular networks (Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid and Zong) in Pakistan in year 2009. Pakistan has total market of 95 million mobile subscribers at that time and now it’s around 100 million, if we took an average than it comes to 93 messages per person per month.
The rate of send and receive message growth in Pakistan is higher than any other country. The main reason of this growth is that the interest of youth and they depend more on the text messages. The spectacular SMS growth in Pakistan is really good news for the Pakistani Operators. The text messaging is a crucial source of data revenue and most of the operator around the globe rely on it.

According to the research SMS will continue to expend the highest share of the world mobile data revenue through 2012 and will make a larger and good impact in emerging markets. On the other hand, SMS revenue as a percentage of mobile data revenue will turn downward throughout the expected period, as other data services made possible by the rollout of next generation networks will gain further toehold.
